Combat Ski Mobility Training

PROVIDING ON SNOW SKI SIMULATION IN PREPARATION FOR WINTER DEPLOYMENTS AND/OR ANY SNOW COVERED TERRAIN

Introduction

Until recently, for the military there as been no opportunity to train and practise for all terrain land based ski movement, prior to attending a winter ski training package.

Combat Ski Mobility training can provide an unprecedented opportunity to initiate novice ski acquisition training and address skill fade in previously trained ranks at and around military bases.

Nordic Cross Skis (All terrain skate ) have benefited from technical developments in recent years and can now provide a training experience that has a direct transfer of skill to ‘on snow’ cross country skiing, utilised by troops carrying weight and weapons.

Brent Hushon is a former Warrant Officer & Chief Instructor of the Mountain & Cold Weather Warfare Training Cadre Royal Marines, he retained his enthusiasm for cross country skiing and arduous physical exercise and for the past sixteen years has travelled and trained on mixed terrain using this equipment. He unequivocally supports the application of the Nordic Cross Ski product and it’s benefits for preparing novices prior to winter deployments and reduced risks of injury.

Novice skiers can be introduced to the equipment and very quickly develop balance, coordination and confidence with the movement pattern required for skiing. Strength and fitness is developed in tandem. Military personnel with previous ski experience can utilise the product to revisit their skills and further develop competence in cross country ski techniques. Nordic Cross Skis have the ability to allow troops to arrive on winter deployments with core skiing skills in place.
The product is robust and versatile and offers an innovative approach for novices and developing skiers training.
